Between long TSA lines, crowded gates and multi-hour layovers, navigating the airport is stressful enough. Add a puppy – even worse, one that’s rarely left the house – and things get even more hectic. As a new pet owner, I’ve learned that a sturdy, well-designed travel crate can make or break your (and your furry friend’s) plane trip and your experience on the water. airport.

When it comes to choosing the perfect carrier for your pet, you want something durable, lightweight, and designed with plenty of storage space for treats, toys, pads, leashes, poop bags and, well, any other pet accessories you could dream of. Most importantly, the pet carrier must also meet all airline size regulations and guidelines so you don’t panic the night before your flight wondering what will happen if you can’t push the carrier far enough under your seat.

Enter the Wild One Travel Carrier, which ended up meeting – and exceeding – all of my expectations, which made me and my pup feel comfortable as we rode through the clouds. Almost immediately after buying my dog a plane ticket to Florida to accompany my husband and I to Spring Break – my dog’s first flight with us – I started looking for carriers for pets. After countless hours of scrolling through Facebook recommendations and Amazon reviews, I came across Wild One’s Travel Carrier. I didn’t initially buy it, instead opted for a much cheaper Amazon alternative. However, when this one arrived with a broken zipper just a week before our flight, I took it as a sign to trust my instincts and order the carrier from Wild One.

Fortunately, my instincts turned out to be correct. The Wild One Travel Carrier was delivered right to my door in perfect condition, and I immediately loved how light it was (less than a pound on its own). While my dog is small at only 10 pounds, I didn’t want anything too bulky that would weigh me down – and cause nasty shoulder pain – while rushing for my door. I also loved the sleek exterior of the carrier. Although it comes in fun colors like a fashion-forward tan and a striking green, I opted for the basic black to combat smudges, dirt, and debris.

It’s clear that this baby carrier was designed with versatility, durability and functionality in mind. There are mesh walls for breathability, a built-in collar clip, a detachable shoulder strap that doubles as a leash, and a cushion that can be rolled out to use as a plush dog bed or travel mat when you get to your place. destination. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention the outer storage pockets, which can be used to hold everything from pee pads to smartphones. (Some are zipped for an added sense of security, while smaller ones are left open for easy access.) Plus, there’s an exterior strap that lets you secure the rack to your handy suitcase. free, but still secure, carry. The best of all? My dog didn’t seem to care at all.

I flew JetBlue in an Even More Space seat to Florida and had plenty of leg room, even with the pet carrier tucked under my seat. Plus, the carrier’s low profile also gave my pup extra room to stick his head out, which he did throughout the flight. On the way home I flew in Delta’s main cabin and even with much less leg room my dog was able to stick his head out and I could still sit comfortably.

When I got home, I threw the inner rug in the wash, cleaned the exterior of the carrier with a Lysol wipe, and put it away in my closet so it would be ready for the next time we let’s travel together.
